Whether you're upgrading an old computer, building a new one, or just doing a clean reinstall, installing Windows 10 doesn't have to be intimidating. In this guide, we’ll walk you through every step to install Windows 10 safely and correctly—even if it’s your first time.
Before you begin, make sure you have the following:
A computer (desktop or laptop).
A valid Windows 10 license key (can be purchased from Microsoft or an authorized retailer).
At least 8GB USB flash drive (for creating installation media).
Another working computer with internet access (to download the installation tool).
Backups of important data from your old system (the installation process will erase your hard drive).
On a working computer, visit the Windows 10 Download Page.
Click Download tool now under "Create Windows 10 installation media."
Open the downloaded tool and accept the license terms.
Select Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC and click Next.
Choose:
Language: English (or your preferred language)
Edition: Windows 10
Architecture: 64-bit (unless your system is 32-bit)
Select USB flash drive and choose the correct drive from the list.
Let the tool download and create the bootable USB. It may take some time depending on your internet speed.
Plug the USB flash drive into the computer where you want to install Windows 10.
Power on (or restart) the computer.
Enter the BIOS or UEFI settings (commonly by pressing F2, F10, F12, or Del at startup).
Change the boot order to prioritize the USB drive.
Save changes and exit. The system should boot into the Windows Setup.

Once the installer starts, choose your language, time, and keyboard preferences and click Next.
Click Install now.
Enter your Windows 10 product key, or click "I don't have a product key" if you want to enter it later.
Choose the version of Windows that matches your license.
Accept the license terms and click Next.
Choose Custom: Install Windows only (advanced) for a clean installation.
Select the drive where you want to install Windows. If you want a clean install, delete old partitions (carefully!) and choose Unallocated Space, then click Next.
Windows will begin installing. Your computer may restart several times.
After installation:
Choose your region and keyboard layout.
Connect to a Wi-Fi or Ethernet network.
Set up your account:
Use a Microsoft account or create an offline/local account.
Set a password and choose privacy settings.
Let Windows finish setting up your desktop.
Once on the desktop, open Settings > Windows Update and check for the latest updates.
Install drivers:
For most systems, Windows installs them automatically.
For best performance, download drivers from your PC manufacturer’s website (especially graphics, audio, and chipset drivers).
Activate Windows: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation to enter your product key.
Create a restore point once everything is set up.
Install essential software: Browser (Chrome/Firefox), Office, Antivirus, etc.
